Henrikh Mkhitaryan, captain of the Armenian national football team and midfielder for Italy’s “Roma,” spoke about the Artsakh war and Armenian prisoners of war in Azerbaijan during an interview with La Repubblica.
“The war in Artsakh has been going on for 30 years, yet many countries prefer to ignore this conflict. It is unbelievable that such a thing can happen in the 21st century. It is painful that there are Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan who have been torn from their families. During the war, I appealed to the whole world. It was important that our voice be heard. I am grateful to the Italian government for its support. I also thank all those who recognised the independence of Artsakh.”
“Roma’s humanitarian aid sent to Armenia was a wonderful initiative. The club saw people’s grief and decided to help. I will never forget what ‘Roma’ did,” said Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
