Hrayr Tovmasyan no longer President of the Constitutional Court: National Assembly takes decision

The National Assembly, by secret ballot, adopted the decision to appeal to the Constitutional Court on the matter of terminating the powers of Constitutional Court President Hrayr Tovmasyan. Of the 132 deputies, 101 participated in the vote, 98 voted in favor, and 1 deputy voted against. Only deputies of the ruling “My Step” faction and “Bright Armenia” participated in the vote. “Prosperous Armenia” had previously announced that it would not participate; as Prosperous Armenia leader Gagik Tsarukyan had said, the justifications for terminating Tovmasyan’s powers are weak. The National Assembly, by secret ballot, adopted the decision to appeal to the Constitutional Court on the matter of terminating the powers of Constitutional Court President Hrayr Tovmasyan. Of the 132 deputies, 101 participated in the vote, 98 voted in favor, and 1 deputy voted against.

Only deputies of the ruling “My Step” faction and “Bright Armenia” participated in the vote. “Prosperous Armenia” had previously announced that it would not participate; as Prosperous Armenia leader Gagik Tsarukyan had said, the justifications for terminating Tovmasyan’s powers are weak.

As the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on State and Legal Affairs, Vladimir Vardanyan, informed in a conversation with “Azatutyun,” within 30 days of receiving the decision and adopting the procedure, the Constitutional Court must render a decision, and that period may be extended by up to 50 more days.
