Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has confirmed reports of her upcoming visit to Armenia. This is reported by TASS.
“I did not know that my visit had been announced. I leave for Armenia tomorrow,” Pelosi said.
She noted that she had received the invitation from the Armenian side some time ago.
Earlier it had become known that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would visit Armenia this weekend to express solidarity with Yerevan, whose eastern border regions came under Azerbaijani attack during the week. This is reported by Politico.
Pelosi will be accompanied by Jackie Speier, co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, who, together with the other co-chairs of the Caucus, introduced a resolution in Congress condemning Azerbaijan’s attacks and demanding the suspension of American aid to Baku.
Pelosi and Speier are expected to hold meetings with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and other officials.
A day earlier, Speier and the other co-chairs of the Armenian Caucus had strongly condemned the Azerbaijani attacks and the indifference shown by the international community.
Responding to Politico’s inquiry about the visit, Pelosi’s spokesperson said that for security reasons he could neither confirm nor deny it.
