During a question-and-answer session with the government in the National Assembly, Tatevik Hayrapetyan, a deputy of the “My Step” faction, drew the acting Foreign Minister’s attention to the fact that Azerbaijan is ignoring the international community’s calls regarding prisoners of war.
“How do our international partners envision our next steps in terms of returning Azerbaijan to a constructive field as much as possible, since this situation is completely undermining the security of the region and creating problems,” the deputy said.
Acting Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan noted that the escalation of the situation in recent days may create the impression that the issue of prisoners of war has remained in the shadows. “I want to assure you that we are raising this issue on a permanent basis and stating that Azerbaijan must fulfill the commitments it undertook on November 9 and immediately repatriate our prisoners of war. International pressure is growing day by day; it seems there is international consensus on this issue. I believe the moment will come when Azerbaijan will not be able to deny this growing international pressure in connection with various issues, ranging from the humanitarian nature to its attempt to penetrate Armenia’s sovereign territory. Otherwise, Azerbaijan may face much more serious consequences,” he said.
Ara Ayvazyan noted that the international response is very telling, and our regional partners have expressed their principled position. “Iran is also concerned about the issue of regional stability and security as a result of Azerbaijan’s provocative actions,” he said, noting that they had a very substantive conversation with our Iranian counterpart and believe that we are on the same page.
