Nikol Pashinyan’s statements regarding the CSTO, made during the republic’s parliamentary hour, have been taken into account, and work continues toward holding consultations. This was announced by CSTO press secretary Vladimir Zaynetdinov, as reported by the RIA Novosti agency.
“The information from Armenia’s acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has been taken into account. Work continues in accordance with the instructions of CSTO Collective Security Council Chairman Emomali Rahmon,” Zaynetdinov said.
Zaynetdinov also recalled that on Tuesday, CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov, during a coordinating meeting of the chairmen of defense and security committees, stated that the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border requires immediate measures, primarily of a political and diplomatic nature, as well as delimitation and demarcation of this section of the state border.
On Wednesday, Pashinyan, speaking before Armenia’s legislative body, said that the Armenian side does not rule out appealing to the UN Security Council because of the situation on the border with Azerbaijan, if the CSTO mechanisms do not allow resolving this issue. In addition, he said that Armenia is not satisfied with the “speed of actions” of the CSTO in resolving the border issue with Azerbaijan, and added that the organization has not publicly expressed a clear position on this matter.
