The unveiling ceremony of the memorial commemorating the victims of March 1 took place in the Children’s Park in Yerevan, surrounded by Zakyan, Beirut and Grigor Lusavorich streets, attended by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, National Assembly President Alen Simonyan and President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
“March 1 is not a day of mourning, of course, we mourn the fact of the victims, we honour their memory, but March 1 has a broader context. The meaning of the life struggle of our brothers who died that day is about something entirely different. The struggle and sacrifices of March 1 have reached their goal, because today the falsification of elections in the Republic of Armenia is already a closed page to which there will be no return. The guarantor of this is the people of the Republic of Armenia,” Pashinyan declared.
According to the Prime Minister, March 1 was in reality about the deficit or absence of democracy in 2008.
“March 1 was about how we use the time we have as a state. On March 1, and later also in September 2020, in essence, the wasted times were expressed, which we should have used to build the state, institutions, independence, sovereignty, welfare and the economy,” Pashinyan said.
It should be noted that the author of the sculpture “Action and Reaction” is Albert Vardanyan.
