Nikol Pashinyan has published a message addressed to the citizens of the Republic of Armenia on his Facebook page, which we present in full below.
“Hello, citizen of the Republic of Armenia:
You are being addressed by a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, father of four children, former editor of the Haykakan Zhamanak daily, former political prisoner, member of parliament from 2012-18, head of the Yelk faction in parliament in 2017-18, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, acting Prime Minister, and candidate for Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan.
I want you not to give up, I want you not to doubt. They are trying to convince you that you were wrong to think that you could be a decision-maker in your homeland, in your state. They are trying to convince you that time has shown the opposite, that you must either be a subject in your homeland or lose your homeland.
But I address you with the conviction that the truth is exactly the opposite. For many years we tolerated many things for the sake of the homeland, and in the end it turned out that we were tolerating the disintegration of the homeland.
At the moment we began to stop tolerating, our homeland already resembled a machine hurtling toward an abyss, which we were trying to steer without a wheel or tyres, without brakes or an engine. We are stopping that fall with difficulty, with heavy losses, with numerous victims, with unbearable pain, with turbulent and chaotic times.
And now you face a choice: to submit to time, or to make time submit to you. I want time to submit to you, because the time that was not subject to you yesterday is the key cause of our losses today. Today’s bitterness has been accumulated yesterday.
Do you remember on how many occasions and for how many years you lived with the conviction that “there is no future in this country”? And when you were changing your conviction, the greatest disaster arrived, and you began to think again that there is no future.
But today was the future yesterday. And tomorrow is the future today, and it will come if you decide that it exists, because you must not lose, through pain, your ability to dream of the future and to make the future daily work.
Hello, citizen of the Republic of Armenia:
I am writing to you to say that there is a Future. There is a future, and we shall create it today.
Yours, Nikol,” Pashinyan wrote.
