Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns Azerbaijan’s authorities for instituting criminal prosecution and declaring an international wanted notice against Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan and former Armenian presidents Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan.
“It recently became known that Azerbaijan’s authorities have instituted criminal prosecution and declared an international wanted notice against Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan and former Armenian presidents Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan.
We strongly condemn these criminal prosecutions, which are fabricated and dictated by anti-Armenian considerations, as well as this kind of abuse of international legal procedures.
Instead of making efforts to identify those involved in the extrajudicial killings of civilians in Artsakh and the forced disappearances of Armenian prisoners of war, as well as to expose the criminal networks that brought terrorists to the region, Azerbaijan is expanding with renewed vigour the anti-Armenian policy it has pursued for many years, and is making new attempts to provoke further tension in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
We call on Azerbaijan to take steps aimed at seeking solutions in a constructive field, protecting the rights and well-being of all peoples of the region.
At the same time, we reaffirm the Republic of Armenia’s commitment to making efforts aimed at establishing peaceful coexistence and mutual tolerance in the region,” the statement by Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
