On 25 January, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, on a working visit to Brussels, had a meeting with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on issues of regional security and stability. Minister Mirzoyan highly commended the decision to deploy the EU civilian monitoring mission in Armenia.
Ararat Mirzoyan drew Josep Borrell’s attention to the humanitarian crisis created in Mountainous Karabakh as a result of Azerbaijan’s illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor. It was stressed that Azerbaijan, in accordance with the provisions of the 9 November trilateral statement, must immediately cease the blockade of the Lachin corridor.
The Armenian side emphasized the implementation of active steps by the international community to prevent Azerbaijan’s policy of subjecting Mountainous Karabakh to ethnic cleansing.
The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the EU High Representative discussed developments around the process of normalizing Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.
Reference was also made to the process of normalizing Armenia-Turkey relations.
Also on the meeting’s agenda were issues related to the further development of the Armenia-EU partnership.
