Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, member of the National Assembly’s “My Step” faction and chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sports, has been elected president of the Yerevan Chess Federation with a vote of 30 in favor, 4 abstentions and 1 against, replacing Taron Margaryan. In this regard, Hayrapetyan made a post on his Facebook page, noting that “Alongside my legislative activity, from now on I will seriously pursue the realization of opportunities for the development and dissemination of this powerful game of the mind… Chess is also a way of thinking, making moves and living prudently, where the soldier and the king standing side by side are not less important than each other. I have immeasurable confidence that chess plays a great role in the formation of a person’s character, and if you remain faithful to its principles—of fairness, modesty and precision—your moves will never turn against you.
