Russian peacekeeping forces ensured the safety of more than 200 pilgrims during their visit to the Amaras monastic complex near the demarcation line of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russian Defence Ministry announced.
“This complex is located near the demarcation line, so the presence of the Russian peacekeeping force is necessary,” said Daniil Nikitin, a representative of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
The Russian peacekeepers accompanied pilgrims who arrived from Stepanakert to the Martuni district and attended the liturgy celebrated at the Armenian Apostolic Church monastery.
It should be recalled that following the signing of the trilateral agreement on 10 November 2020, the monastery remained near the line of contact under the control of Nagorno-Karabakh and within the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers. The Russian peacekeepers guard the monastery daily, on which the Russian flag is placed, and they accompany pilgrims arriving from Stepanakert.
