At least 77 people have died as a result of the floods that occurred in the northern regions of Turkey. This was announced on Monday by the government’s disaster and emergency management authority.
“77 citizens have died as a result of the flood (62 people in Kastamonu, 14 people in Sinop and one person in Bartın),” the ministry’s statement said.
Seven people remain in hospitals.
On Friday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared the flood-affected regions a natural disaster zone. Search and rescue operations continue there, involving, according to Erdoğan, more than 4,600 people and more than 1,000 units of equipment.
