If Armenia and Azerbaijan were to begin negotiations at any point over a peace treaty, then the issue of the status of Mountainous Karabakh must necessarily be on the agenda of those negotiations, on the basis of the principles set by the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.
During a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said this in response to a question about how he interprets statements coming from Azerbaijan that the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia must include Armenia’s recognition of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
“Instead of the Azerbaijani authorities, I would focus on the implementation of the agreements already reached through the trilateral statements of 9 November 2020 and 11 January 2021. At this moment, no negotiations are being conducted over a peace treaty,” Mirzoyan said.
