Currently we are working on the direction of the Zangezur transport corridor, which is to become a component part of the East-West corridor connecting Asia with Europe. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, speaking at the 77th session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, reports AzerTAc.
According to him, Azerbaijan has made an important contribution to the implementation of such regional projects as the East-West, North-South, and North-West transport corridors: “Currently we are working on the direction of the Zangezur transport corridor, which is to become an integral part of the East-West corridor connecting Asia with Europe. This corridor will strengthen Azerbaijan’s position as a transport and logistics hub of Eurasia. I invite partner countries from the Asia-Pacific basin to discuss the potential of this regional project.”
It should be noted that this is not Aliyev’s first statement regarding Zangezur. Recently, Anna Naghdalyan, press secretary of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commenting on Ilham Aliyev’s statement as to whether “after 101 years Azerbaijanis will return to Zangezur,” said: “We strongly condemn the Azerbaijani President’s claims against Armenia’s territorial integrity and threats to use force.
Such statements cause serious damage to regional peace and stability. They reveal the false nature of Azerbaijan’s recent statements regarding peace and reconciliation. We are in constant contact with our strategic ally, as well as with all our partners interested in peace in the South Caucasus.”
