The Central Board of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party announces with deep sorrow the death of the faithful, long-time party comrade HARUTYUN MKRTICHYAN, which occurred on Tuesday, May 12, in New York.
Our late comrade had a fruitful and devoted party, union and community activity for decades in Lebanon and the United States.
He was born in Beirut in 1937, into the family of Boghos and Nazeli Mkrtichyan, being the youngest of the family’s five children.
After receiving his primary education in Beirut, he attended and graduated from the Melkonian Educational Institution in Cyprus in 1956. By profession he was a pharmacist’s assistant.
Mkrtichyan joined the ranks of the ADL in 1958 in Beirut.
He simultaneously became a member of the Armenian General Benevolent Union and actively participated in the Antranik-Sevan boys’ scout movement and the football club of the Armenian Youth Association.
In 1968 he started a family with Mariam Sarkisyan and was blessed with two children, Karine and Karen.
Due to the Lebanese civil war, the family moved to America in 1983 and settled in Queens, New York.
In America he continued to serve the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, within the Armenak-Hovsepyan club of New York and New Jersey, holding responsible positions. He was also an active member of the Tekeyan Cultural Association.
His daughter, Karine, married Richard Worth in the United States and gave her parents a granddaughter, Amanda, aged 16.
He had lost his spouse two years ago.
The memory of the late comrade, a faithful soldier of the cause, will always remain alive in the hearts of those who had the fortune to know him and enjoy his friendship.
On this sad occasion, the Central Board of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, and especially to his nephew, Chairman of the ADL Eastern America Regional Board and member of the ADL Central Board, Comrade Norayr Mkrtichyan.
May his soul rest in eternal light and peace.
