Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has described online diplomacy in discussions over a peace agreement with Armenia as “ineffective” and has invited Yerevan to return to the negotiating table.
“The element of face-to-face meetings is now absent from the agreed format, but in order not to kill the process entirely, the Azerbaijani side does not refrain from receiving and sending comments — what I mean is online diplomacy. That is, comments are simply exchanged. Do we consider this the most effective method of communication when discussing the draft peace treaty? I think not,” Bayramov said at a press conference on Tuesday following negotiations with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
Bayramov stressed that “Azerbaijan remains committed to the non-alternative agenda of peace and will continue the search for mutually acceptable solutions to normalise relations with Armenia.”
“Azerbaijan’s position is entirely consistent and clear: despite all difficulties, we remain committed to the peace agenda based on the 5 principles,” he said.
Bayramov added that “Armenia’s policy is not constructive.”
