In recent months, we have followed with horror the course of various sad events, as a result of which Lebanon today finds itself in the heaviest phase of a vast general economic crisis and collapse.
Particularly since 2019, the country has been living through difficult days, the main causes of which are not only financial, monetary and social, but more so, because the contradictory approaches adopted by Lebanon’s political elite and the pursuit of personal and self-interested motives by each grouping hinder all efforts to form a new government and further complicate the grave situation created by external influences, leaving the country in a hopeless state.
As the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, we deem it necessary to state that for us, as in the past, so today, the fundamental idea remains that Lebanon is the cradle of life and livelihood born of the charm of coexistence, dialogue of cultures and civilisations; Lebanon is not merely a country, but that fertile environment in the depths of which the Armenian people succeeded in emerging from their wounded and exiled state of the past and in living, breathing and creating fully as a community, while actively forming part of Lebanon’s social, public and also political life. And today it is no secret that for nearly three years now, the economic situation striking the country, the unbridled spread of the “Covid” pandemic and, above all, the major port explosion that shook all of Beirut have dealt heavy blows to the historic Lebanese-Armenian community.
Therefore, we, as the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, believe that it is the urgent duty of the entire Armenian people to extend a helping hand to our beloved sisters and brothers enduring painful conditions, and we call upon Armenians worldwide to employ ALL possible means, to exert full efforts and to devote their entire potential to the preservation of the Lebanese-Armenian community, and indeed also to its restoration.
On Behalf of:
THE CENTRAL BOARD OF THE ARMENIAN DEMOCRATIC LIBERAL PARTY
