Armenia and Azerbaijan Must Carry Out an Exchange of Territories of Corresponding Exact Size: Pashinyan

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has presented his vision of what peace should look like after the signing and ratification of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has presented his vision of what peace should look like after the signing and ratification of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement.

Pashinyan spoke about this in a video published on his Facebook page.

“What should peace look like after the signing and ratification of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement. Armenia must have a territory of 29,743 square kilometres. The delimitation and demarcation of the borders must take place on the basis of the Alma-Ata Declaration with this logic. The issue of enclaves and exclaves must be resolved with the following formula: there must be no enclaves and exclaves on either side of the border, that is, the two countries, Armenia and Azerbaijan, must carry out an exchange of territories of corresponding exact size.

All roads and communication routes must be open within the framework of the TRIPP project, but not only within the framework of the TRIPP project. All communication routes must work, must be open, including with the logic of operating from Armenia to Armenia through the territory of Azerbaijan and from Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan through the territory of Armenia and ensuring communication,” the prime minister said.

He added that Armenia and Azerbaijan must present no demand to each other and must leave each other alone on all issues, including with the logic of Karabakh, Gardman, Shirvan, Nakhichevan or with the logic of western Azerbaijan.

“Now the next and, perhaps, most important question is whether there is a real opportunity to give peace this shape. From my contacts with the president of Azerbaijan in Turkmenistan, I have a preliminary impression that we have the opportunity to give peace such a shape, and in the coming period we will be engaged in realizing that opportunity, turning that opportunity into reality,” Pashinyan said.
