Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the opening ceremony of the “Yaghdan” substation renovated by the “High-Voltage Electric Networks” company of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. Armenpress reports.
The work was carried out within the framework of the “Additional Financing of the Electricity Supply Reliability Program” implemented with financial allocation from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Suren Papikyan highlighted the role and contribution of large-scale programs implemented in the energy sector with the support of the World Bank, the largest donor by volume of bilateral grant programs, in increasing the reliability of Armenia’s electricity sector.
According to the minister, this station is of great importance in ensuring reliable electricity supply to the south-western part of Yerevan, as well as a number of settlements in Armenia’s Armavir region. He noted that thanks to the new 110 kV open distribution equipment built during the reconstruction works and the installed SCADA system, the capacity of the power transmission network will increase, as will the stability of electricity supply to consumers in central and southern Yerevan. Papikyan also noted that the number of emergency outages caused by equipment failure will decrease, and operating costs will also be reduced.
Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Hagop Vartanian said during a meeting with journalists that it is not a generating plant but a substation.
Renovation work on the “Yaghdan” substation, founded in 1988, began in July 2016, and about 14 million dollars was invested to successfully carry it out. The substation, now equipped with modern technological equipment, employs 15 people.
