According to a study by the Tatoyan Center for Law and Justice, preliminary data has been brought to light indicating that the perpetrators in the footage of Armenian prisoners of war being shot are servicemen of the newly formed Azerbaijani “Komando” unit. This is also borne out by data from Telegram channels. This was announced by the Tatoyan Foundation.
“The unit’s active involvement in the military operations during the war Azerbaijan unleashed against Armenia on September 13-15, 2022, is also evidenced by the external features of their uniforms, similarities and comparisons in numerous videos published on Telegram channels. In addition, there are videos from after September 13-15, 2022 regarding the reinforcements of the ‘Komando’ unit, in which they are wearing the same uniforms as in the aforementioned video.”
“This unit was created for a specific purpose, including terrorising the Armenian population through atrocities and cruelty. We make this assertion on the basis of objective evidence.
The process of detailed examination of evidence substantiating Azerbaijani war crimes is ongoing, and they will be duly documented and also sent to international partners.
One thing is unequivocal: Armenia must immediately apply to the International Criminal Court, even if at this stage it recognises the court’s jurisdiction for a certain period without ratifying it.
The priority is the question of international criminal responsibility of Azerbaijan’s authorities, army and special services leadership. The international criminal prosecution of these individuals, or at least the initiation of that process, could have a preventive significance.
Under these ongoing mass war crimes by Azerbaijan against the Republic of Armenia, this must be done without a moment’s delay.”
