On 2 October, a meeting took place in Geneva between Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry announced that Mirzoyan reaffirmed the Armenian side’s position regarding the withdrawal of Azerbaijani forces from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and the immediate release of all Armenian prisoners of war. The introduction of international mechanisms for monitoring the border situation was emphasised.
The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia stressed that the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces must receive a clear assessment by international courts, and the perpetrators must be held accountable.
“The sides exchanged views on the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, on ensuring the rights and security guarantees of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, including through the creation of a discussion mechanism between Stepanakert and Baku,” the statement said.
According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the mutual understanding that regional transport routes should be unblocked under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries was positively assessed.
