Due to Azerbaijan’s complete blockade of Artsakh, the road connection of the Mets Shen community in the Shushi district with the capital Stepanakert has been cut off, which has created humanitarian problems in the village.
In a conversation with an “Artsakhpress” correspondent, the head of the Mets Shen community, David Davdyan, informed that those villagers who work in Stepanakert have currently remained unemployed.
“We also have a female student from the village who is currently in Stepanakert and has been deprived of the opportunity to visit her parents; they can only maintain contact with each other by phone. At present, only mobile phone communication operates with Stepanakert,” the community head noted.
According to him, the residents of Mets Shen are currently engaged in agricultural work, although the Azerbaijani positions are quite close to the village and also to the agricultural lands.
“I myself am engaged in beekeeping. My beehives are located at a distance of 500 metres from the enemy’s positions,” the community head noted and added that it is true that no cases of targeting the civilian population by the adversary have been recorded, but concern among residents nevertheless exists.
Spring sowing in the village began 10-12 days ago. According to the community head, they have already managed to plant potatoes, onions, garlic and greens.
“The villagers had potato seeds, but, according to reports, state support was also provided in due time, in the amount of approximately 100-150 kilograms for each,” D. Davdyan presented.
Referring to the village’s problems, he stated that they have had an irrigation water problem for many years now, due to which part of the orchards is not used.
The head of the Mets Shen community stated that by a decision of the government of the Republic of Artsakh, it is planned to install fountains in the village, and the implementation of the programme, in his conviction, would somewhat solve the problem.
