The Prosperous Armenia Party has issued a statement regarding the adoption of the draft bill on amendments to the Constitution.
“Dear fellow compatriots,
today the ‘My Step’ faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia adopted the draft amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, which clearly contradicts Article 169 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, as well as Article 86 of the Constitutional Law on the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, which directly stipulates that after the first reading of the draft constitutional amendments, it must be submitted to the Constitutional Court to determine the conformity of the proposed amendments with the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.
The parliamentary faction of the Prosperous Armenia Party, availing itself of the authority defined by point 2 of Article 169 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, is initiating a signature drive of one-fifth of the deputies of the National Assembly to appeal to the Constitutional Court on the question of the constitutionality of the decision adopted by parliament today. We call on our colleagues from the Bright Armenia party to join this initiative in order to protect legal security in our country and prevent the overthrow of the constitutional order,” the statement reads.
