The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia honored the memory of the March 1 victims with a minute of silence. At the start of the National Assembly session, NA President Alen Simonyan proposed honoring the memory of the victims with a minute of silence. Following the presidential elections held in Armenia on 19 February 2008, mass protest demonstrations began in the country. The protests were led by the first President of the Republic of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan; he and his supporters disagreed with the election results, according to which Serzh Sargsyan had been elected president. At the start of the National Assembly session, NA President Alen Simonyan proposed honoring the memory of the victims with a minute of silence.

Following the presidential elections held in Armenia on 19 February 2008, mass protest demonstrations began in the country. The protests were led by the first President of the Republic of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan; he and his supporters disagreed with the election results, according to which Serzh Sargsyan had been elected president. On 1 March 2008, mass unrest and clashes took place between protesters and police, resulting in the deaths of 10 people, 2 of whom were police officers.
