Artur Vanetsyan, the head of the Republic of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS), resigned from his post today.
Vanetsyan made a post on his Facebook page about this, writing in particular:
«Dear compatriots,
Honourable servicemen of the RA National Security Service,
I inform you that I have made the decision to submit a letter of resignation from the post of director of the RA National Security Service. In the current situation and in the context of what is to come, I consider such a decision to be the most preferable and most justified option for serving the Republic of Armenia and my people.
I have made this decision with the same confidence as the one when, at a fateful stage for our country, I agreed to assume the post of director of the National Security Service. My activity over the course of a year and a half has always been before your eyes, and I have taken every step with one principle: the Homeland and the officer’s honour are above everything.
State-building has its own logic; the spontaneity of decisions, the rashness of actions, a working style that does not distinguish the primary from the secondary and the transient from the enduring is not the path that leads to the realisation of goals. It has nothing in common with the dignity of an officer; the officer’s epaulettes and such a course of developments are incompatible. Let my resignation be a sobering “Stop” step; the duty towards the homeland shall prevail over all other options.

Vanetsyan had held the post of director of the National Security Service since 10 May 2018.
Let us recall that earlier, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who was giving a press conference on a wide range of topics, had touched upon the subject of Vanetsyan’s resignation, noting that he had signed the motion to relieve the director of the National Security Service of his duties.
