The countries of the region are the guarantors of peace, and the presence of foreign forces cannot ensure peace; they pursue other objectives. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri, who is in Yerevan, expressed this view during a conversation with journalists.
He was also asked how he assesses Azerbaijan’s conduct in continuing to hold Armenian territories under occupation and keeping the Lachin corridor blockaded for 100 days, despite the ruling of the International Court of Justice of the UN.
“God created diplomats so that through peaceful dialogue they could achieve the establishment of stability. Iran will use all its capability and potential to resolve problems through peaceful dialogue. I assume that the leaders of the region’s countries are wise enough to choose the option of dialogue for resolving issues,” he said.
At the same time, Bagheri noted that for Iran, the development of relations with neighbours is a priority, and in Iran’s foreign policy, the Republic of Armenia occupies its own distinct place. He stated that he had very productive discussions with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, as well as with one of the deputy ministers.
During the meetings, according to Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, the steady position of official Tehran on the establishment of peace in the region was emphasised: “Iran is a reliable partner in establishing peace and security in the region.”
It should be recalled that yesterday Bagheri announced on his Twitter page that he was visiting Armenia on a two-day visit at the invitation of Armenian colleagues.
