Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
Nikol Pashinyan informed the Russian President about the situation created by the incursion of Azerbaijan’s armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia, the province of Syunik.
The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia also informed President Putin that he had today instructed that an official appeal be made to the Collective Security Treaty Organization to begin consultations in accordance with Article 2 of the Collective Security Treaty procedures.
Vladimir Putin deemed further escalation unacceptable and expressed hope for the rapid stabilization of the situation and the creation of the necessary conditions for the implementation of the agreements reached by the trilateral statements of 9 November 2020 and 11 January 2021. The Russian side reaffirmed its readiness to continue active mediation efforts with the aim of ensuring stability in the region.
The interlocutors agreed that the resolution of this situation must be expressed by the return of Azerbaijani forces to their previous positions.
