The resumption of negotiations on the Karabakh issue is a top priority for us
The presidents of France and Russia have agreed to resume efforts within the framework of the Minsk Group to achieve a stable settlement of the situation around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Clear initiatives will be undertaken in this direction in the near future. In response to a query from «Armenpress», the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France to Armenia, Jonathan Lacôte, stated this, referring to the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron.
In response to the question of what steps the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs will take so that Azerbaijan finally returns the Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku, putting an end to human rights violations, Jonathan Lacôte noted that in the co-chairs’ latest statement there was a call to return all prisoners of war.
“In their statement of April 13, the co-chairs called for the release of all prisoners of war and detained persons in accordance with international humanitarian law. On April 24, Secretary of State Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne received the families of the prisoners at the French embassy,” the ambassador stated.
The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France to Armenia, Jonathan Lacôte, also touched upon the so-called “Victory Park” opened in Baku, where Armenian weapons seized as war trophies during the war and wax figures in the form of Armenian soldiers are displayed, recalling his statement that war is not an occasion to stage a show, and that the priority now is to find a solution to the conflict.
