US President Joe Biden has announced an update to the refugee admission program for 2021, more specifically raising the number of refugees to 62,500. This position is conditioned by criticism directed at his administration by the Democratic Party. This is reported by the Reuters agency.
The US President changed his mind 2 weeks after his administration announced its intention to keep the refugee cap at a historic low of 15,000. The level of 15,000 refugees was set by the previous president, Republican Donald Trump.
In Biden’s statement it was noted that the figures do not correspond to the country’s values, according to which support for and admission of refugees is fully welcome.
