Rustam Muratov, deputy commander of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces, has stated that there is positive understanding on the issue of returning Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan as a result of the Karabakh war. “As of today, all Azerbaijani soldiers have been returned, while the process of returning Armenian prisoners of war continues, and there is positive understanding. “As of today, all Azerbaijani soldiers have been returned, while the process of returning Armenian prisoners of war continues, and there is positive understanding. I believe that this issue should be fully closed. The Russian peacekeepers will complete the task,” Muratov said.

He noted that the work of returning prisoners is regarded as a duty of the peacekeepers.

“As a military man, I understand who prisoners of war are and what feelings they have had. I remember the first flight to Baku, when we were returning prisoners to Yerevan. The plane landed in Yerevan and we saw tears. They could not believe that they had returned home,” Muratov recounted.
