Voting in the second round of the presidential election has begun in the Republic of Artsakh. According to Armenpress, as of 08:00 on 14 April, the 282 established polling stations had been opened, one of which is located in Yerevan, at the building of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Artsakh in the Republic of Armenia, and one polling station was also opened at the Shushi penitentiary institution.
Based on the results of the presidential election held on 31 March, the candidates who advanced to the second round to contest the office of President of Artsakh are Arayik Harutyunyan, chairman of the “Free Homeland” party, with 49.26% of the votes, and Masis Mayilyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh, with 26.4% of the votes.
Eight electoral commissions are operating in the city of Stepanakert and in the seven regions of Artsakh.
According to data from the Police of the Republic of Artsakh as of 13 April 2020, the total number of voters in the Republic of Artsakh is 103,637, of whom 832 people will participate in the elections at the polling station formed in the city of Yerevan, while 1,270 are included in supplementary lists.
Presidential candidate Masis Mayilyan, on his Facebook page, has called on the people of Artsakh not to participate in the elections to be held on 14 April, taking into account the risk of the spread of the “Corona” virus.
The first case of the “Corona” virus in Artsakh was recorded on 7 April in the village of Mirik; the number of cases has reached 6. All residents of the village of Mirik have self-isolated. Twelve people are in isolation. The total number of citizens tested is 57. A state of emergency has been declared in the country.
