On September 30, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the Republic of Cyprus organized a reception dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia.
Present at the reception were five ministers who are members of the government of Cyprus, as well as representatives of the government and the parliament, ambassadors and high-ranking diplomatic officials, representatives of the armed forces and security services and representatives of the Armenian community, among them, by special invitation, the Chairman of the Cyprus Regional Board of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party, Hagop Khourshidian.

In her remarks, Ambassador Mrs Inna Torkomian touched on the importance of Armenia’s independence and the existing historic and contemporary strong ties between Armenia and Cyprus. She also spoke about a particularly active year for Armenia, mentioning the 8th summit of the European Political Community convened in Yerevan, the first European Union-Armenia summit, the parliamentary elections held in June and the preparatory work being carried out in Armenia to host the COP17 Biodiversity Conference to be held in October.
Referring to the first year since the founding of Armenia’s embassy in Cyprus, the Ambassador stressed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the political, security, economic, educational and cultural spheres, as well as in the directions of tourism and decentralized cooperation.
In her address, the Minister of Education, Sport and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus, Athena Michaelidou, congratulated the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia on behalf of the government of the Republic of Cyprus, stressing the close and friendly relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Mrs Torkomian expressed gratitude to the government and people of the Republic of Cyprus, to the Armenian community and to the diplomatic staff for the friendship, support and cooperation shown. And she wished Armenia peace, stability and prosperity, expressing confidence that in the coming years the friendship between Armenia and Cyprus will be further strengthened.
