The water problem in Stepanakert continues to remain unresolved. The capital of Artsakh is currently 25–30% without water, whereas last week it was 40–45%.
“The zones of Stepanakert’s round-the-clock water supply are divided into 12, of which at this moment about 70% of the 6th zone is without water. Four days ago we connected a new deep artesian pump — the 18th — to the 9th and 10th zones, and for two days now the round-the-clock water supply has been restored. Previously, if 40–45% of Stepanakert was without water, now 25–30% is without water,” said Gagik Poghosyan, director of the Artsakh “Water and Sewerage” CJSC.
According to him, the districts without water are in the highest elevations of Stepanakert: “We are doing everything to give water for at least one or two hours a day, but it is not happening. The network does not allow us to distribute the water in parts.”
Gagik Poghosyan reported that for several days the Stepanakert office of the International Committee of the Red Cross has provided 15 plastic water tanks with capacities of 5 and 3 tons, which have been installed in the courtyards of apartment buildings in Stepanakert’s districts without water. The Red Cross had previously provided 10 more tanks, this time with capacities of 5 and 2 tons.
Let us recall that water cutoffs in Stepanakert began in the evening hours of 6 August. By decision of the mayor of Stepanakert, from 10 August, water use at all car wash points and recreation areas operating in the capital has been halted until water reserves are restored at the filtration stations supplying the city.
