Students will attend classes wearing masks in schools. This was stated by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arayik Harutyunyan on 18 August, in an interview given to Radio Azatutyun.

“You see that we are lifting significant restrictions, in essence fully restoring the courses, ensuring a large flow of students to schools, and basic anti-epidemic conditions must be maintained. Questions are being raised about how it will be with masks. Here we must all work and explain to parents the necessity of students wearing masks, because in the conditions of the easing of these restrictions, the mask is the best means of preventing the spread,” the minister said.

Arayik Harutyunyan also noted that they plan, in the case of classrooms being large, to split them, so that it may be possible to ensure social distancing.

“In terms of disinfection, instructions have also been given. Schools must also provide disinfection supplies, particularly hand disinfection, disinfection of classrooms before or after classes,” Arayik Harutyunyan noted.

The minister also noted that there will be a lightening of the class schedule. Students will attend schools six days instead of five.

“This is very important. We are extending the school week so that students spend as little time as possible at school, which will significantly reduce the spread of the virus. In addition, with more frequent visits, the continuity of lessons and education will be ensured. There will also arise the issue of food. Canteens and buffets will not operate, and we are trying to find some solutions here, but one of the solutions is that the less time a child spends at school, the more the need for food supply decreases,” he said.
