The Supreme Judicial Council has made a decision and suspended Ruben Vardazaryan’s powers as judge and as member (chairman) of the Supreme Judicial Council. We learn this from the press service of the Supreme Judicial Council.
The statement reads:
«On April 15, 2021, in a closed session, the Supreme Judicial Council, based on the notification by the Prosecutor General to the Supreme Judicial Council regarding the initiation of criminal prosecution against the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, judge of the general jurisdiction court of first instance of Yerevan, Ruben Vardazaryan, in connection with the non-performance of his powers, and guided by Article 86, point 7, and Article 165, parts 1 and 1.1 of the constitutional law «Judicial Code of the Republic of Armenia», has decided to suspend Ruben Vardazaryan’s powers as judge and as member (chairman) of the Supreme Judicial Council until the conclusion of the proceedings in the criminal case initiated against him.
In accordance with Article 84, part 13 of the constitutional law «Judicial Code of the Republic of Armenia», the duties of the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council shall be performed by the eldest member of the Council, scholar-member of the Supreme Judicial Council Gagik Jhangiryan»:
