In the early morning of 6 February 2023, the building of the Tekeyan Cultural Union of Aleppo was not spared from the devastation caused by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Syria and the region, and the aftershocks that followed in the ensuing days.
The Union’s building, barely renovated after the war, has this time been thrown off balance by a natural disaster. It is currently once again in an unusable state.
In order to assess the disastrous consequences of the earthquake and evaluate the extent of the damage caused, members of the ADL Regional Board of Aleppo and the Board of the Tekeyan Cultural Union, accompanied by construction experts and surveyors, visited the club and outlined the scope and costs of the renovation works.
The photographs taken during the visit and the immense destruction that has come to light truly paint a tragic picture.
The exterior walls of the building are damaged. Considerable damage has also been recorded inside. An interior wall of the courtyard has collapsed, and cracks have appeared on the walls of all the rooms.
Due to the major structural damage recorded, the still-standing portion of the building is also considered hazardous.
