The level of the conflict has in fact grown in many respects; it is a loss for both peoples, Azerbaijan and Armenia. This was stated by former US National Security Advisor John Bolton on the air of “ArmNews,” according to 168.am.
John Bolton clarified what he meant when, during his visit to Armenia, he stated that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia is in an excellent position to make a decisive decision on the Karabakh issue as well.
“I was noting the fact of living in a democratic society when a country’s new leader takes office. It is a period to see whether international conflicts, especially those that are at an impasse, have the opportunity to emerge from it. During the initial meetings there were encouraging signs, but in the year following my visit it did not proceed that way, and the level of the conflict has in fact grown in many respects. I believe that is a loss for both peoples, Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the former high-ranking American official said.
Bolton said he understands that the resolution of the conflict is complex.
“I consider the Caucasus to be pivotal not only for those living there, but also for the United States and the entire world. This is in fact a very dangerous environment because of some of your neighbours. I would have liked the US to pay greater attention to this issue. I would have liked us to be more useful, but there are three small countries there, surrounded by one large country and two problematic countries to the south. I believe that the US presence from outside increases regional security, because we are not limited geographically,” he said.
