The goal of Azerbaijan’s armed forces was to capture all of Karaglukh, Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan stated during a meeting of the expanded composition of the Artsakh Security Council, noting: “The main peak of Karaglukh, the highest point, is under our control, but some important heights are currently under the control of Azerbaijan’s armed forces.”
“Our goal is for the Azerbaijanis to return to their starting positions. Our demand and request to the peacekeeping forces has been that the status quo, which stems from the trilateral statement, must be restored. We will never change this demand,” the Artsakh President said.
Harutyunyan expressed conviction that the purpose of that provocation instigated by Azerbaijan was primarily to discredit the role of the Russian peacekeeping forces. “We consider that the Russian peacekeeping forces continue to carry out their mission, apart from that episode,” the Artsakh President emphasized, and called for maintaining vigilance at a high level, “until it becomes clear that Azerbaijan will not resort to such provocations again.”
“Therefore, in the future, we will take much more radical and decisive steps in terms of our self-defense,” Harutyunyan concluded.
