The Civil Contract party will nominate former Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan as its candidate in next year’s elections for Mayor of Yerevan, according to the ruling party’s public relations coordinator, Vahagn Aleksanyan.
In a recent interview with one of the media outlets, the incumbent Mayor Hrach Sargsyan said that, with Avinyan’s consent, he would appoint him Deputy Mayor. The ruling party said that, yes, Avinyan will first be appointed Deputy Mayor, and next year he will already head the pre-election list.
“There is a decision by the board of the Civil Contract party that Tigran Avinyan will head the Civil Contract list in the upcoming local government elections in Yerevan and will be the candidate for mayor, but it is very important that this distinction be made, that our current mayor is Hrachya Sargsyan and the Civil Contract party, with its entire team, supports him in his work. As for Mr. Avinyan, there is also a decision that he should soon become Deputy Mayor of Yerevan,” said Vahagn Aleksanyan.
