Today, during the regular session of the RA government, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reminded that as early as August of this year, Azerbaijan was carrying out customs administration against trucks of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the section of the Goris-Kapan road belonging to it:
«Yesterday we received an unofficial notification from Azerbaijan that from the night of November 11 they are preparing to carry out customs and passport control also over RA citizens and cargo. After receiving the notification, we decided to direct citizens travelling through that section to the Kapan-Aghavni-Tatev-Halidzor-Shinuhayr M2 road»:
Pashinyan informed that the Tatev-Aghavni road has been asphalted and put into operation last week: «Last Thursday I went to Kapan and returned by that road. I can testify that we have received a quality road»:
According to the Prime Minister, when going to Kapan and back, he saw several dozen trucks with trailers on that road, including Iranian ones.
«Yesterday until midnight and after that, about 100 trucks with trailers passed through the Kapan-Tatev section», said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the travel time to Kapan and in the opposite direction via the new route will not increase, but will decrease, given the quality of the road:
Nikol Pashinyan stressed that the Azerbaijani checkpoint is not located on the territory of the RA: «The issue concerns the Eyvazli area. Now a question may arise: was it not possible to negotiate on this issue? Yes, it was possible, but the price of that would have been the corridor logic, which is unacceptable to us»:
The head of government once again assured that they have never discussed and will not discuss any corridor logic, which is recorded in the trilateral format of the deputy prime ministers.
«In recent weeks, Russia has also publicly confirmed this logic and understanding. It is precisely in this context that Azerbaijan made yesterday’s decision. Armenia continues to remain faithful to the provisions of the November 9 and January 11 statements, particularly regarding the unblocking of all transport and economic communication routes of the region. We are interested in unblocking all economic and transport communication routes of the region and hope to reach clear solutions in the near future», said Nikol Pashinyan.
He informed that Armenia will also install checkpoints: «In this extremely important period, it is important for us to maintain composure, to have strong nerves», noted Pashinyan:
