“What do we see if we look at our 30-year statehood? We see successes and failures, we see victories and defeats, tears and joys, inspiration and despair, admiration and disappointment, wars, victory and defeat in war. The weight of defeat in the 44-day war of 2020 hangs over Republic Square.” This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during his speech at the festive event marking the 30th anniversary of Independence on Republic Square.
“How to live after that catastrophe, how to look into the eyes of the fathers, mothers, widows and children of the fallen, how to ensure that their sacrifice is not seen as meaningless? We must formulate the guidelines for the future for the coming decades of the independent state.
History has proven that victory in war has not always become a victory, just as defeat has not always become defeat. History has shown that to win it is not necessary, and sometimes it is not needed, to defeat others; to win means to defeat despair, fate, death, hopelessness. The martyrs fell so that Armenia would live, so that Artsakh would live, and as long as Armenia lives, as long as Artsakh lives, they are alive. When the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh develop, then their sacrifice has achieved its purpose,” the Prime Minister noted.
