Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, in an interview with state-run AzTV the previous day, also addressed the aid to be provided to Armenia by the EU. He noted that Armenia is to receive 2.6 billion euros, Georgia 2.3 billion euros, while Azerbaijan gets nothing.
“As for Azerbaijan, a figure of 150 million euros was mentioned, but we were not told exactly when that allocation would be made, nor what the conditions of the allocation are. Of course, I think this is a wrong position, because Azerbaijan is the largest country in the South Caucasus — in territory, in population, and in capabilities. Until now, such large sums have not been allocated to the countries of the region. This indicates that these funds are being allocated after the war, that is, the reason is the war. If that is so, then the country that suffered the most from the war is Azerbaijan. Those funds should be allocated to Azerbaijan,” said Aliyev, complaining that such a large sum is to be given to Armenia.
“The money is being given to Armenia — are there devastations in Armenia? No. Did we lay mines there? No. This is unfair. There was an exchange of views on this matter. The answer was that, supposedly, Azerbaijan does not need funds. First, no one offered us anything. Offer it to us, and I will say whether we need it or not. Are we not to rebuild the ‘liberated territories’? Billions of dollars are needed, which of course will not fall from the sky,” said the Azerbaijani president.
He noted that Azerbaijan is a self-sufficient country, but if a grant were offered as to Armenia, they would never refuse.
