At the Tokyo Olympic Games, Armenian athlete Artur Aleksanyan won the silver medal.
Aleksanyan (97 kg) secured the silver medal after conceding to Russia’s Musa Yevloyev in the decisive bout, with a score of 1:5.
It should be noted that Aleksanyan had started the competition from the round of 16. In the opening bout, he defeated Uzur Dzhuzupbekov (Kyrgyzstan) 4:1, then prevailed 5:1 against Finland’s Arvi Savolainen, and in the semifinal defeated Iran’s Saravi Mohammadhadi 4:1. During that bout, Aleksanyan sustained a muscle injury.
This medal is the second won by Armenia within the framework of Tokyo 2020; on 2 August, gymnast Artur Davtyan had become a bronze medalist.
