On 3 August, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) to the Republic of Armenia, Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri, and the Military Attaché of the IRI Embassy to the Republic of Armenia, Colonel Bahman Sadeghi, visited Gegharkunik Province accompanied by representatives of the RA Ministry of Defence. We learn this from a statement issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations of the RA Ministry of Defence.
The commander of the military unit, Major-General Arayik Harutyunyan, presented the situation prevailing on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border to the ambassador, after which a visit was organised to the border line in the Verin Shorzha section.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the IRI to the Republic of Armenia, expressing concern over the continuation of border disputes between the two countries, emphasised the need for restraint on both sides and the peaceful settlement of disputes between the two countries. He expressed his condolences to the families of the servicemen killed during the recent clashes.
Clarifying the need for all sides to respect internationally recognised borders, Ambassador Zohouri noted that ensuring lasting peace in the South Caucasus stems from the interests of the peoples of the region and expressed the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to support the establishment of lasting peace in the region.
