Armenian national weightlifting team member Simon Martirosyan became the silver medallist of the 32nd Summer Olympic Games.
In the 109 kg weight category of the weightlifting competition at the Olympic Games taking place in the Japanese capital Tokyo, Martirosyan lifted 190 kg in his first attempt in the snatch, then 195, which is a record weight for the Olympic Games, and requested 198 kg for his third attempt, but failed to lift it.
Martirosyan started the clean and jerk with 228 kg and managed to hold it overhead. He then failed to lift the barbell weighing 238 kg; in his final attempt as well, Simon Martirosyan was unable to lift the same weight.
With a total of 423 kg, Simon Martirosyan is again second at the Olympic Games. The gold medal was won by Uzbekistan’s representative Akbar Djuraev.
Simon Martirosyan is the silver medallist of the 2016 Olympic Games and a two-time champion of the World and European Championships.
