Mustafa Şentop, the Speaker of Turkey’s Parliament, also spoke about the proposal to recognize the Armenian Genocide in Spain during a meeting with Turkish journalists in Spain. This is reported by “Ermenihaber”.
“I can say that, to this day, the majorities in the various convocations of the Spanish Parliament have not voted in favor of the resolutions presented on this matter, taking into account the value of Spain-Turkey relations. This matter brings no benefit whatsoever to Armenia or to the Armenians living in Armenia; on the contrary, it is harmful.
These are things that anti-Turkish circles of the Armenian diaspora are trying to do, without thinking about their people and Armenia… Peace and cooperation are necessary,” Şentop elaborated.
Şentop called the issue of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide “a matter that has reached the point of gangrene.” He suggested that, instead of dealing with such matters, one should look ahead, so that an environment is created in the region where all peoples may live in friendship.
