Acting Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan and UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Shombi Sharp have signed the document “UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2021-2025 for Armenia.”
As reported by the Office of the Acting Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, prior to the signing ceremony Mher Grigoryan delivered a welcoming address, noting that all the sectors and directions mentioned in the document have a key role for Armenia. In his speech, the Acting Deputy Prime Minister notably stated: “Thanks to the document being signed today, I believe we will further concentrate our joint efforts towards the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
According to the source, the Cooperation Framework signed by Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Shombi Sharp is the UN’s most important strategic document, which defines the work of all UN structures operating in Armenia over the coming five years.
The agreement, developed on the basis of national development priorities, summarizes the collective offer to the country of 20 UN structures operating and non-resident in Armenia, through which the UN expresses material support of 230 million US dollars in favour of the Armenian people.
At the signing ceremony, Shombi Sharp emphasized: “The Cooperation Framework is a new important milestone in the already deep cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the United Nations Organization. We are confident that through joint efforts with our partners we will make an important contribution during the period of the twin crisis of the pandemic and conflict, helping the country move forward towards a brighter, peaceful and prosperous Armenia. This agreement defines the ambitious and collective vision of all UN agencies in Armenia, aimed at improving people’s well-being and opportunities, contributing to green economic reforms, strengthening the effective governance system and promoting gender equality.”
