The ruling “Civil Contract” party is to launch an active “Yes” campaign starting next week, and February 25 was the fundraising evening designated for the expenses of the pre-election campaign. It was closed to the media; the event was broadcast live on the “Yes” Facebook page. The Prime Minister and the President of the National Assembly delivered speeches.
“The Constitutional Court currently operating in the Republic of Armenia has no connection with the people of Armenia, has received no authority from the people of Armenia, and enjoys the absolute distrust of the absolute majority of the people of Armenia, of the Armenian people,” declared Nikol Pashinyan.
The Constitutional Court today does not represent the people, and the time has come to make that decision, the Prime Minister continued. “Because not changing this institution means being guided by the slogan — forgive me — that is very characteristic of those men, comparing everything to cars, or understanding everything in the language of cars; it is the same as believing that one can have an S-class Mercedes and move forward with it when it is fitted with tyres from a Moskvich-408,” said Pashinyan.
Nikol Pashinyan did not bypass the discussions regarding electoral fraud. He guaranteed that they will not allow even a single ballot paper to be falsified. “This political group will cut off its own hands, but will not allow the falsification of a single ballot paper, a single one. I personally will cut off my two hands, but I will not allow the falsification of a single ballot paper, because otherwise that would mean erasing our entire lived life, all those values on which we stand,” declared the Prime Minister.
A Constitutional Court formed in direct violation of the spirit of the Constitution cannot be independent and impartial, noted the head of parliament, Ararat Mirzoyan, in his speech.
“Dear citizens, by saying ‘yes’ in the referendum, you will be expressing your agreement that the judges of the Constitutional Court not be bearers of the influences of political forces and currents, not protectors of their interests, and in this regard, not part of political and party processes,” declared Mirzoyan.
As a result of the fundraising evening, 205 million 560 thousand drams was collected.
The “Yes” headquarters is to conduct an active campaign under the leadership of the Prime Minister, with campaign meetings to be held in all cities of Armenia.
