The U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, Lynne Tracy, has met with the relatives of Armenian soldiers captured in 2020 and 2021; both relatives of the missing and of soldiers sentenced to long-term imprisonment in Azerbaijan were present.
The U.S. Embassy in Armenia reports that the focus of the discussion was human rights issues, including point 8 of the November 2020 trilateral statement by Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia on the ceasefire, concerning the exchange of prisoners of war, hostages and other detainees and the bodies of the deceased, and the Geneva Convention.
“We call for the release of all detainees and, considering the pain of families who have no information about the whereabouts and fate of their loved ones, for increased efforts aimed at obtaining information about missing soldiers (including from the 1990s),” the statement reads.
