The President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, has sent a message on the occasion of Labour Day. This was reported by the office of the RA President. As announced by the Department of Public Relations of the RA President’s staff, the message reads as follows.

“Dear compatriots,

Today is Labour Day.

This year it passes under the conditions of a state of emergency, for some — healthcare workers, taxi and ambulance drivers, police officers and rescuers, and for their other colleagues — even in a continuous working mode.

First of all, I want to congratulate and express words of gratitude and good wishes to the people in those fields, especially the doctors and healthcare workers, for whom these days the hospital is both home and family. They deserve the highest appreciation, as well as special treatment and reward from the state.

I am also grateful to all those people who these days are working with a heavier burden than usual, without complaining. They are aware that each of their additional efforts can save at least one life, provide bread for one family, and contribute to the preservation of the safety of the citizen and the country.

Dear compatriots,

Because of the “Corona” virus pandemic, some of you have been temporarily cut off from work, some have lost their jobs — their only means of daily livelihood. The President shares their concerns and understands what it means to remain without work in this situation.

I know that at this moment many of you are looking for a lifeline. There is a need for state support, and also a need to hold each other’s hands firmly, because without helping each other we cannot move forward, let alone in a state of emergency. You are all people of work, people who love work. And it does not matter at all where you are at this moment, conditioned by the state of emergency — whether isolated at home or at a construction site, in front of an operating table or at work continuing a scientific thesis, whether you are in service or waiting for an employer’s call.

Even today, serious social problems have arisen in the most developed and richest countries. We too find ourselves in a difficult situation. On the one hand, the pandemic with its consequences, on the other hand, economic and material problems, and alongside them, social and human problems. In all cases, the state first of all, and all of us, have work to do.

The way out of the situation lies in the state-employer-worker triangle, which must be a solid whole. However, the path to a solution is first of all responsibility, discipline, caution, and also care towards the working person, so that we overcome the pandemic as soon as possible and return to normal life.

We are accustomed to overcoming difficulties, and today too we must do so together. And overcoming is also work that no one can do in place of another.

Be strong, be steadfast.”
